The number of people relying on smart devices and cloud-based applications for business communications continue to increase rapidly. In order to support telecommuting, cloud-based SaaS Services and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), small business owners today are facing critical challenges to satisfy fast-growing demand on network availability, wireless connectivity and application management. With limited IT resources, frugal small and medium businesses (SMB) need UTM gateways that are easy to use and that offer comprehensive security features and deep packet inspection capabilities to control, prioritize and block certain applications.

The ZyXEL next-generation UTM gateways, powered by the Cavium OCTEON III CN70XX/71XX Processor Family are designed to address these challenges. Equipped with up to four high-performance 64-bit processing cores, dedicated crypto acceleration and a powerful deep packet inspection engine, the OCTEON III CN70XX/71XX family enables class-leading firewall/VPN throughput, deep packet inspection, sophisticated anti-malware protection and application-specific traffic control. ZyXEL is able to offer enterprise-class security features and wireless performance to remote offices, retail locations and small businesses.

SMBs also need affordable high-bandwidth switches to support the increasing traffic driven by adoption of cloud-based applications, VoIP, video streaming and IP surveillance. The Cavium OCTEON III CN70XX/71XX processors provide high-performance control for ZyXEL's new series of 12 and 24-port 10-Gigabit switches in a very low power envelop, delivering superior value measured in performance per Watt.

"The longstanding partnership between ZyXEL and Cavium has resulted in the successful deployment of ZyXEL UTM firewall products. We are excited to enable a new wave of products using the Cavium OCTEON III processors that will bring better performance with lower power," Wayne Hwang, VP of ZyXEL Gateway Business Unit. "The OCTEON processors offer unique acceleration features and excellent scalability that helps us deliver UTM firewall and 10 Gigabit switches with leading performance and an excellent user experience."

"Cavium is very pleased to expand our partnership with ZyXEL," said Venkat Sundaresan, Director of Product Line Marketing, Infrastructure Processor Group, Cavium, Inc. "OCTEON products have consistently raised the bar for security performance and features with every new generation. These latest innovative products from ZyXEL do an excellent job of leveraging our power processing and acceleration capabilities for the SMB and enterprise markets."

The OCTEON III CN70XX/CN71XX families of multi-core cnMIPS64 processors target high-end retail, SMB and entry-level enterprise platforms for networking, security, storage and control plane applications. The families integrate single to quad cnMIPS64 v3 cores with virtualization capabilities and hypervisor support. These highly-integrated SoCs include a rich set of I/O's and Cavium's advanced hardware acceleration for packet processing, security, deep packet inspection (DPI), offering a power, performance, and price-optimized solution for next-generation platforms.
