In the sleek, stylish body design adopting the magnesium alloy, the DMC-GM5 (GM5) now integrates a 1,166K-dot equivalent LVF (Live View Finder) with approx.0.92x / 0.46x (35mm camera equiv.) magnification and 100% field of view. This LVF boasts approx.100% color reproduction as that of the LUMIX GX7.
The GM5 realizes high-quality image recording with real-to-life details through excellent resolution, image rendering and color reproduction. Taking full advantage of the 16.00-megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor and Venus Engine, images are rendered with high resolution even when shot in low-lit situations, and at a max. 25,600 ISO sensitivity.
The Contrast AF System of GM5 excels in both speed and accuracy by exchanging a digital signal between the camera and the lens at max. 240 fps. A variety of extensive AF functions including new Face / Eye Detection AF, Low Light AF, Pinpoint AF and One-shot AF enhances usability to comply with a wide-range of shooting situations. The touch-control system integrated in the 3-inch large, approx.921K-dot high resolution monitor in 16:9 immediately lets users set focus to the subject by touching the screen to release the shutter.
The GM5 also features Full HD 1920 x 1080, 60p (60 Hz) high quality video recording in AVCHD progressive and MP4 with stereo sound. The practical full-time AF and tracking AF is available in video recording too. The cinema-like 24p video with the bit rate of max. 24 Mbps or P/A/S/M mode provide a richly expressive afterimage with overwhelming image quality.
The GM5 features a new video recording option called "Snap Movie Mode". Users can record video for short periods of time (2/4/6/8 sec) as they shoot "moving photos". It is easy to share using the Panasonic Image App, and it is possible to connect them later with a variety of interval fade effects and music. The GM5 also incorporates the popular Creative Control mode with a total of 22 fascinating filter effects in addition to Time Lapse Shot, Stop Motion Animation and Clear Retouch. For more manual photography, the Time (long exposure) function was newly added to let photographers set exposure time max. 60 sec.
Furthermore, the GM5 allows photographers to use a max. shutter speed of 1/16,000 for action photography. The GM5 is compatible with Focus Peaking, Silent Mode, Highlight/Shadow Control and Level Gauge.
With the Wi-Fi® connectivity, users can connect the camera to their smartphone / tablet to expand shooting flexibility. It is also possible to use a smartphone / tablet as a multi-capable remote shutter with a monitor. With the Instant Transfer function, photos are automatically sent to the smartphone / tablet immediately after shooting. Additionally, both images and video can be archived to the registered digital equipment such as PC automatically, via the wireless access point (router) at home.
An External flash unit (GN7/ISO100･m, GN10/ ISO200･m) is bundled to mount on the newly added hot shoe (in black or silver). On the other hand, the GM5 allows attachment of Hand Grip DMW-HGR1 (black / silver, sold separately) to enhance strength of gripping.
Packing a high photographic performance in a sleek, ultra-compact body, the DMC-GM5 is offered in black and red with premium synthetic leather. Dispelling all the prejudice against heavy, bulky DSLRs, the new LUMIX DMC-GM5 sparks the creativity that lies in every user across genders, across generations.
