Midas, most prevalent oblique camera systems since 2005

December 05, 2013 -- Lead Air, the US based manufacturer of Track Air equipment has announced the delivery of thirteen Midas systems in the last twelve months:

  • Four systems are operated by Belgium based Aerodata, one of the largest aerial mapping companies in Europe.
  • Three systems are operated by Fugro group, a major US and international mapping company. 
  • Three systems are operated by Sanborn, a well-known major US mapping company.
  • One system is operated by Control Cam, a large aerial survey operator based in Florida.
  • Two systems went to a legendary US telephone manufacturer.

With over one hundred systems delivered in the past eight years, Midas systems have been used all over the world, generating hundreds of millions of aerial images, which have been mainly used to create stunning 3D models of dozens of cities, viewable  online or on various mobile systems. The Midas was also deployed on one the largest oblique photography projects ever carried in the USA, with several companies operating at least eight Midas systems simultaneously on a daily basis.

The Midas system can deliver two inch resolution from an altitude of 1,000’ to 5,000’. The upcoming Midas Chimera, scheduled for presentation at the 2014 ASPRS is one of the largest single body digital cameras in the world;delivering 400 megapixels per photo position. The Chimera, which is equipped with top technology from Phaseone and Applanix, is entirely designed and built in the USA by lead Air at their Florida facility. This camera allows high speed collection from 5,000 feet AGL with a GSD of 2 inches.

In 2013, Lead Air initiated a new marketing policy simplifying the lease and rental of costly equipment such as the Midas.  The rental Midas systems come ready for use, equipped with IMU, stabilized mount, special fixation plate designed to your airplane specifications, etc. Training and installation can be arranged as well as support throughout the project. To gain time, the Midas can also be delivered pre-boresighted; Therefore the system can be in the air commencing production within 24 hours of delivery.
