ASSET’s SourcePoint debugger offers insight into complex code on AppliedMicro’s ARM 64-bit HeliX 2 SoCs

Dec 16, 2015 -- The greater visibility of ASSET® InterTech’s SourcePoint™ software debugger now enables engineers to quickly find the root causes of bugs in complex multithreaded code running on AppliedMicro®’s 64-bit ARM®-based HeliX® 2 family of system-on-a-chip (SoC) devices for the embedded market.

ASSET ( www.asset-intertech.com), a leading supplier of software and hardware debug, trace, validation and test tools, has worked closely with Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (NASDAQ: AMCC), also known as AppliedMicro, to support the HeliX 2 family of SoCs. HeliX 2 devices have been designed for a wide range of embedded applications for the enterprise networking, storage, telecom infrastructure, and industrial market segments. The HeliX 2 quad-core processors are based on the ARMv8 architecture, and integrate a 64-bit memory controller and multiple high speed I/O interfaces, including 10 gigabit Ethernet and PCIe 3.0. Its rich feature set makes HeliX 2 the optimal solution for a wide range of next-generation solutions, including routers, storage appliances, optical networking equipment and industrial automation.

“We are very excited about continuing our relationship with APM and supporting the HeliX 2 SoC. We are already seeing a lot of interest in the HeliX 2 in the industry. Plus, the greater visibility of SourcePoint’s debug tools will help engineers who are working with HeliX 2 platforms to find difficult software bugs quickly,” said Jeff Acampora, ASSET’s business development manager for SourcePoint ARM software debug and trace tool. “Code bases have gotten so complex and large that legacy debug technology is hard pressed to uncover bugs, especially in a 64-bit multicore environment. Without the visibility tools that SourcePoint has, the engineer could spend weeks looking for the cause of a bug in the wrong places.”

“By collaborating with ASSET previously to enable SourcePoint for our X-Gene® Server on a Chip® product family for enterprise systems, we saw firsthand the power of their solutions for 64-bit ARM-based SoCs,” said Robert Reiner, AppliedMicro’s director of marketing. “We are very excited that ASSET is extending its support for the 64-bit ARM ecosystem to include our HeliX 2 family of 64-bit devices. This allows our HeliX 2 customers to quickly test, debug, and validate their embedded platforms, enabling fast development and rapid time to market.”
