Altera CEO John Daane Receives 2014 Robert N. Noyce Award from Semiconductor Industry Association

SIA recognizes Daane with prestigious honor for his outstanding contributions to advancing the semiconductor industry

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 14, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —  Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) today announced that President, CEO and Chairman of the Board John P. Daane is this year's recipient of the prestigious Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) Robert N. Noyce Award.  Daane was presented the award by Dr. John E. Kelly, senior vice president and director of IBM research and 2014 SIA chairman, before the semiconductor industry's top leaders and more than 400 SIA members at the annual SIA dinner held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose on November 13, 2014.  Selected by the SIA Board of Directors and members, the award recognizes Daane's sustained contributions to advancing the semiconductor industry both in the United States and throughout the world. 

Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) recognizes Altera CEO John Daane with prestigious Noyce award for his outstanding contributions to advancing the semiconductor industry.

John Daane joined the SIA Board in 2003 and has been instrumental in furthering the association's efforts to impact policies favorable to the semiconductor industry.  During his tenure, the SIA has achieved several key policy accomplishments including major reforms to semiconductor export controls, significant strides towards the elimination of dangerous counterfeiting of semiconductor products, and duty-free treatment of the latest semiconductor products.  These and other accomplishments, help ensure the U.S. semiconductor industry remains the global market leader and continues to be one of the top contributors to U.S. economic growth.

Daane has served as Altera president and CEO since 2000 and was named Altera's chairman of the board in 2003.  Under his leadership, Altera has become an innovative powerhouse and has developed breakthrough programmable technologies for a wide range of markets, including communications, automotive, industrial and compute and storage. 

As a supporter of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, Daane has directed Altera's support and financial contributions to educational organizations, helping grow the next generation of high technology leaders and innovators.  He also is a proponent of diversity in the workplace, recognizing that diversity of people and thought fosters innovation.

During his award acceptance speech, Daane called on SIA members to become more involved.  "We are facing major issues that will affect our industry's ability to stay competitive in a complex, shifting global market," noted Daane.  "We need to expand the number of semiconductor advocates, and I am calling on SIA members to get involved in today's agenda.  Help us advance the critical issues outlined in the SIA roadmap.  Get involved as a company or personally in supporting programs in the workplace. Only together can we ensure our success and ability to win over the long term."

Prior to joining Altera, Daane spent 15 years at LSI Logic, most recently as executive vice president of the Communications Product Group.  Daane earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of California, Berkeley. The Noyce Award is the industry's highest honor and celebrates the legacy of Robert Noyce, co-inventor of the integrated circuit and co-founder of Fairchild Semiconductor, Intel, and the SIA.
