Burke County Selects FARRAGUT AddressOne to Solve its Addressing Headaches

Longmont, Colo., July 6, 2010—FARRAGUT, a public sector software company, announced today that North Carolina’s Burke County has purchased FARRAGUT AddressOne, the industry’s first and only GIS-enabled, enterprise addressing software product, to fix its addressing headaches.

Currently, Burke County—like most county governments—maintains its addresses in multiple systems. In Burke County’s case there are three separate systems—on paper, in a legacy database, and in its GIS system. “Every time we make a change, we have to roll out that change in all three systems,” said Scott Black, GIS manager at Burke County. “It’s a management nightmare. Plus, we keep losing data as things get misplaced, especially the paper.”

But Black anticipates that the County’s filing cabinets stuffed full of maps and notes will soon be a thing of the past. AddressOne will integrate all three of its systems into one centralized system supported by powerful GIS tools and automation features that will allow County staff to work far more efficiently and effectively.

After 17 years of juggling this “management nightmare,” Black had a long wish list for his next addressing system. “I thought I would have to cobble together an addressing solution from various tools and extensions. Then I found AddressOne. All the features I wanted were all there in one package,” he said. “I actually said out loud to myself: ‘I found it!’”

Burke County purchased AddressOne using its Enhanced 911 (E911) funds. E911 is a system that automatically associates a physical address with the calling party’s telephone number. This gives emergency responders the location of the emergency without the person calling for help having to provide it. With AddressOne in place, Scott anticipates that the addresses provided to emergency workers will not only be more accurate, the location information will be more detailed, helping emergency workers locate an address that is more difficult to find, a house set far back from the road, for example.

“We are excited to work with Burke County to get them away from the “paper” and on track with a system that will dramatically improve the way they manage their addressing data,” said Bill Campbell, VP of Local Government Solutions of FARRAGUT. “They are poised to become a great case study in how to turn a “nightmare” into an opportunity.”
