USGIF Now Accepting Applications for Annual Scholarship Program

To date the Foundation has awarded $1.2 million in support of GEOINT education

Herndon, Virginia (November 8, 2018)— The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) announces the opening of its 2019 Scholarship Program. Each year, USGIF awards scholarships to exceptional students studying the geospatial sciences and related fields. In total, USGIF has awarded more than $1.2 million in scholarship funds since the program began in 2004.

Graduating high school seniors, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students are invited to apply.

“We regard all applicants as scholars,” said USGIF Director of Academic Programs Dr. Camelia Kantor. “We enjoy reading every line of every application as students demonstrate both their mastery of GEOINT and willingness to make meaningful contributions to society. Every year, I am personally impressed with the credentials of all applicants, especially the awardees recommended by USGIF’s Scholarship Subcommittee. I am humbled by these highly deserving individuals.”

In addition to USGIF Scholarships at each of the four academic levels, the Foundation offers three specialized scholarships:

  • The Stu Shea USGIF Endowed Scholarship—A $15,000 scholarship awarded to one Ph.D. student studying cartography, geography, or imaging science. This award, named for one of the founders of USGIF, is funded by the USGIF Board of Directors.
  • The Ken Miller Scholarship for Advanced Remote Sensing Applications—A $10,000 scholarship awarded to one master’s degree student in partnership with USGIF Organizational Member Riverside Research.
  • The RGi Scholarship for Geospatial and Engineering—A $10,000 scholarship awarded to one undergraduate student who has an interest in engineering and geospatial disciplines. This scholarship is made possible by USGIF Organizational Member Reinventing Geospatial Inc. (RGi).
