Keysight Technologies Honors Dr. Ravi Tandon with 2018 Early Career Professor Award

Recognized for work on wireless networks and cloud computing environments

SANTA ROSA, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 8, 2018 — Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS), a leading technology company that helps enterprises, service providers, and governments accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world, announced today that Ravi Tandon, Ph.D., assistant professor at the University of Arizona in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, is the recipient of the 2018  Keysight Early Career Professor Award for his work in advanced information theory for wireless networks and cloud computing.

Tandon's research focuses on the development of an information theory that supports efficient distributed computation. This work applies to next generation wireless networks and to distributed cloud computing. His research establishes mechanisms to store, access, and compute data in distributed cloud environments, reducing communications overhead while preserving data reliability and security. He also explores new methods for signal interference management, a major issue in future networks.

“Dr. Tandon's work on the underlying information theory for distributed computing in modern networks builds the foundation for design of future networked systems,” said Kent Carey, director of university relations at Keysight. “This work helps fulfill the promise of 5G wireless networks and cloud-enabled applications that will impact everything from autonomous vehicles to the practice of medicine.”

Tandon is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur and received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 2010. He held research positions at Princeton and Virginia Tech before moving to the University of Arizona in 2015. Tandon received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2017 from the Division of Computing and Communication Foundations.

“Dr. Tandon is a young Assistant Professor in my department,” said Tamal Bose, Department Head, Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Arizona. “He has already established himself as a top-notch researcher and academic. His work in the intersection of information theory and machine learning is cutting edge, creative, and impactful. As he advances in his career, Ravi is going to be a super star in our field.”

The Keysight Early Career Professor Award was established to recognize and encourage excellent research enabling design, test, or measurement of electronic systems. The program seeks to create strong collaborative relationships between Keysight researchers and leading professors early in their careers and to highlight Keysight's role as a sponsor of university research.
