NAVGTR Video Game Nominees Announced With $1,000 Contest

SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 27, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —  NAVGTR CORP. — The National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers, a non-profit media organization, has announced nominations for its 14th annual awards program honoring video game art, technology, and production.

Nominees were determined by 637 press voters in 54 competitive categories. 

The academy also revealed a free android app available on Google Play called "NAVGTR Award Junky," which allows users to build buzz for industry nominations and predict winners for various award programs.  The app has been released in tandem with a winner prediction contest at http://navgtr.org/contest.

The nominees for GAME OF THE YEAR are:

  • Dragon Age: Inquisition
  • Far Cry 4
  • Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth
  • Super Smash Bros.

The leader in nominations (12) is Infamous: Second Son, followed by Dragon Age: Inquisition with eleven (11) nods. 

Darren Korb and Mike Laidlaw are this year's most nominated individuals.  Darren has been nominated for his work on Transistor, while Mike Laidlaw is nominated for his work on Dragon Age: Inquisition

Leading small budget nominees include Transistor, Valiant Hearts: The Great War, Broken Age: Act I, Child of Light, Hohokum, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Monument Valley, and Tengami. 

Like last year, Ubisoft is the most-nominated development company this year.  For 2014, Ubisoft adds 31 nominations to its historical total. 

By publisher, Ubisoft leads with 39 nominations.  Nintendo maintains last year's second place lead with 26 nominations this year, followed by Electronic Arts with 24 and Sony with 22.  Other top publishers this year are Activision with 20, Telltale with 12, and Warner Bros. with 11.  Konami, Sega, and Supergiant each earned 5 nominations. 

Creative and technical award categories recognize achievement in animation, art direction, character design, control design, control precision, game design, game engineering, musical score, sound effects, writing, and more.

NAVGTR strongly supports the Developer Credit special interest group at http://igda.org/devcredit to improve crediting practices and help certify award attributions.  Unofficial associated credits have been made available for those researching career achievements or preserving the history of game development where there is otherwise no public record at AIAS, DICE, GDC, GANG, VGA, VGX, TGA.  The group may seek to certify associated credits especially in cases where years of award recipients are not made public, though associated credits do not necessarily indicate actual recipients.  To assist in proper future attributions, developers are highly encouraged to adopt the IGDA Credit Standards Guidelines as a first step.
