Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Goes Online with Trimble eRespond Smart Water Network Management Software

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 14, 2013 — (PRNewswire) —  Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) announced today that the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), the largest municipal utility in the U.S., has implemented Trimble® eRespond™ smart network incident and event management software to enhance its day-to-day water operations and customer response. Recognized as a leading utility industry outage and network management solution for water and wastewater utilities, the Trimble eRespond software provides utilities with the tools to increase network service reliability, improve efficiency and reduce the cost of operations while improving customer service and regulatory reporting.

Trimble eRespond software provides a comprehensive set of features designed to simplify the end-to-end process of network management in water and wastewater utilities. Through a modular, scalable thin client and mobile platform, the software provides a centralized Geographic Information System (GIS) based solution for managing planned and unplanned events on a utility network, enabling improved resolution of customer calls related to water supply and water quality concerns. The software is designed to be scalable, providing a solution for utilities of all sizes, from community-based utilities to a large national utility company with over 16 million meters. The implementation of Trimble eRespond at LADWP replaces the utility's legacy mainframe solution for managing water trouble, water quality and system operations and provides integration with LADWP's Esri ArcGIS® water mapping system and its new Oracle Customer Care and Billing (CC&B) solution.

"In today's increasingly competitive water market where stricter regulations are being imposed, Trimble eRespond can aid in reducing the volume and duration of customer, environmental and system incidents and outages, providing a platform for improved regulatory reporting, efficiency and quality of service," said  Marcus McCarthy, general manager of Trimble's Water Division. "We are very pleased to be able to assist Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in implementing these new and improved water network management processes."

Using eRespond, utilities can improve the management of trouble calls, leakage, pressure and water quality concerns, and other network events such as planned shutdowns and maintenance, helping identify and reduce the use of non-revenue water, minimize customer response times, and shorten network event durations. The software can also improve the productivity of field resources by providing tools to assist field crews in their day-to-day work. These tools include spatially referenced network modeling and electronic forms to assist in the management of planned and unplanned asset maintenance in the field. Trimble eRespond supports background monitoring of key network information from Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Smart Meter Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and other telemetry systems. The software also provides regulatory and management reporting capabilities. Trimble eRespond can be integrated with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Customer Information Systems (CIS), Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) and other systems to enable world class end-to-end business processes.
